This is a film that suffers from too much drama throughout the first half that really has not much of a payoff by the time the credits rolled. Timely concerns and solid performances can’t disguise the fact that You Should Have Left is at its core just another also-ran haunted house flick. You Should Half Left is now streaming on-demand, but I really don't think it's worth your time. There are a few well-done set-pieces, but they don't do enough with them. It feels forced and nothing flows freely. In the end, You Should Have Left presents a solid setting but it doesn't do anything with it. | Rating: 2.5/4 It's cool moments like these that are brushed over in favour of a plot twist that I didn't feel worked all that well, to be honest. Beyond its setting, a few darkly comedic jokes which suggest a self-awareness of genre tropes, and some expected culture clash gags as the wealthy Americans adjust to the speed of provincial Welsh life, there’s very little to distinguish it from any other like-minded movie. They don't know they've been chosen - for a very specific purpose - The Hunt. It stars Kevin Bacon and Amanda Seyfried. One day, when Theo tries to visit Susanna on set, he is annoyed when he is denied access onto the set. Despite being one of the most successful screenwriters in Hollywood history with the likes of Jurassic Park, Mission: Impossible, and Spider-Man to his name, David Koepp’s directorial output has proven decidedly shakier, characterised by modest success (Secret Window, Ghost Town) and abject failure (Mortdecai). You Should Have Left was a film I was looking forward to watching due to Bacon and Koepp reuniting after the incredible Stir of Echoes, but sadly lightning doesn't strike twice for them. But the movie itself turns out to be a much shoddier bit of carpentry... it builds a ponderous Blumhouse haunted house-one whose "scares" are just hints of a secret the audience will figure out faster than intended. Also, I saw nice acting from Avery Tiiu Essex (Theo's daughter). It is, at least, stylishly presented to a point, especially considering its Blumhouse-friendly $4 million budget. You should have left this direct-to-DVD disappointment in the Red Box - or never have rented it on VOD.

You Should Have Left is a thriller film that could have been so much better than it was - but that doesn't mean it isn't worth watching if you like B grade horror movies.
