The Irishman made its world debut at the New York Film Festival Friday and the first reactions from critics are in. What's wonderfully explored here, though, isn't the killer streak, but instead the gravity of taking a darker path and being left at the end with nothing but bloody memories. But many years have passed since a Scorsese movie found so much life in such small moments: at a bowling alley, around a dinner table, at a telephone in the room next to the dining room, where a killer stumbles through a sympathy call to the wife of Jimmy Hoffa, missing presumed dead.

#TheIrishman is a fitting homecoming for De Niro, Pacino, Pesci, and Scorsese’s ode to gangster cinema. An engrossing and, yes, haunting epic. drama, All rights reserved.

The sets and costumes are also well-done, giving an authentic feel for the time-periods.

While its duration and pacing may cause one to add a few sit-ins to complete the film, it's still glued tightly by such magnanimous performances from DeNiro, Pacino and Pesci. Truly one of the films 2019 has to offer.

The movie is a masterpiece, one made by a man counting down his own years as if they were rosary beads. Every film he directs is worth the time, and The Irishman lives up to that billing.

Denying Scorsese's raw talent and experience as a filmmaker would be insanity – although the decision to digitally de-age his actors proves the technology is still spotty, and works best in long shots.
